Dressing Above Your Station is an exhibition conceived and curated by Beca Lipscombe and Mairi Mackenzie examining the role of fashion in the work, aspirations and cultural identity of the Scottish painter Steven Campbell (1953–2007). Focusing upon the depiction of fashion and textiles in a selection of Campbell’s works, the exhibition draws links with Scotland’s tradition of textile manufacture, as well as the related story told by Campbell’s personal wardrobe and the role it played in forming and reflecting his biography. Dressing Above Your Station takes the form of a virtual exhibition, produced by Panel and developed in partnership with ISODESIGN and Rob Kennedy. Presented by Tramway, it features digital representations of Campbell’s paintings, clothing, and personal mementos. A tour of the exhibition is narrated by his wife, Carol Campbell. The exhibition will be accompanied by shop front projections and a poster campaign throughout Glasgow from 31 March – 17 April 2022. |
